Dr. Kris Reddy: Expert of Tummy Tuck in West Palm Beach
Do you ever feel like you've spent much of your adult life doing sit-ups, V-ups and crunches, and you still don't have tight, flat abs? The fact is that even people with a healthy body weight can develop a tummy that protrudes or has loose and sagging skin. Usually the culprits are heredity, multiple pregnancies or significant weight loss/gain. That's why thousands of people are getting the extra help they need.
Abdominoplasty, known more commonly as a "tummy tuck," is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen and to tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall. The procedure can dramatically reduce the appearance of a protruding abdomen.
Dr. Kris Reddy FACS, West Palm Beach board certified plastic surgeon, is a West Palm Beach tummy tuck expert. Dr. Reddy has the rare double honor of being a Fellow of American and International College of Surgeons, the only cosmetic surgeon in Palm Beach County, Florida to hold both of these prestigious honors. Dr. Reddy is also a member of the exclusive American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Kris Reddy FACS commonly performs abdominoplasty after pregnancy or weight loss, when the skin has become stretched or saggy. Dr. Reddy can also perfom a umbilocoplasty procedure to create a new belly button. Patients post child birth also like to have a procedure called a mommy makeover, which usually combines body contouring procedures including liposuction and Brazilian Butt Lift procedures with Breast Enhancement procedures such as Breast Augmentation or Breast Lift.
Dr. Kris Reddy FACS can also perform a mini tummy tuck (or mini abdominoplasty) for the correct patients. Most commonly Dr. Reddy performs a mini tummy tuck on patients who who have mild sagging or post-baby pooch, stretch marks from pregnancy, or C-section scarring. With the mini tummy tuck, Dr. Reddy focuses only on the area below the belly button, not the entire abdomen.
For patients who do not need abodminal muscle tightening, Dr. Kris Reddy FACS can perform a panniculectomy to remove a pannus, or hanging flap of loose skin and fat, from the abdomen. Dr. Reddy commonly performs panniculectomy for patients who have had massive weight loss.
Unlike a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty, a panniculectomy does not involve abdominal muscle tightening.
The Basics – West Palm Beach Abdominoplasty
Dr. Kris Reddy, West Palm Beach Abdominoplasty expert and board certified plastic surgeon, can customize the tummy tuck to meet your objectives, lifestyle, and lifestage. Some patients, particularly moms and people who have lost a great deal of weight, need a full tummy tuck to tighten abdominal muscles that have become stretched out and inelastic. Others may need a less invasive procedure to contour smaller areas of excess skin and fat.
Your Tummy Tuck Procedure - Your New Look
Dr. Reddy performs tummy tuck surgery as an outpatient procedure at the West Palm Beach Plastic Surgery Center, Dr. Reddy's AAAASF nationally accredited operating center utilizing MD Anesthesiologists providing iv sedation or general anesthesia.
Complete abdominoplasty usually takes two to five hours, depending on the extent of work required. Partial abdominoplasty may take an hour or two.
Most commonly, Dr. Reddy, a West Palm Beach Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) expert, will make a long incision from hipbone to hipbone, just above the pubic area. A second incision is made to free the navel from surrounding tissue. With partial abdominoplasty, the incision is much shorter and the navel may not be moved, although it may be pulled into an unnatural shape as the skin is tightened and stitched.
One of the most important parts of a tummy tuck for many of my post-pregnancy patients is correcting the diastasis recti. During pregnancy, your abdominal muscles are stretched, and for some they do not come back together after giving birth. Having separated abdominal muscles can cause some discomfort, and it often contributes to ranges in abdominal contouring (having your stomach appear larger than it actually is). This is not included in all abdominoplasties, but an important part for patients who need the correction.
To correct the diastasis recti, Dr. Reddy separates the skin from the abdominal wall all the way up to your ribs and lifts a large skin flap to reveal the vertical muscles in your abdomen. These muscles are tightened by pulling them close together and stitching them into their new position. This provides a firmer abdominal wall and narrows the waistline.
The skin flap is then stretched down and the extra skin is removed. A new hole is cut for your navel, which is then stitched in place. Finally, the incisions will be stitched, dressings will be applied, and a temporary tube may be inserted to drain excess fluid from the surgical site.
In partial abdominoplasty also known as a mini tummy tuck, the skin is separated only between the incision line and the navel. This skin flap is stretched down, the excess is removed, and the flap is stitched back into place.
For the first few days, your abdomen will probably be swollen and you're likely to feel some pain and discomfort which can be controlled by medication. Depending on the extent of the surgery, you may be released within a few hours or you may have to remain hospitalized for two to three days.
Dr. Reddy, a West Palm Beach Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) expert, will give you instructions for showering and changing your dressings. And though you may not be able to stand straight at first, you should start walking as soon as possible.
Surface stitches will be removed in five to seven days, and deeper sutures, with ends that protrude through the skin, will come out in two to three weeks. The dressing on your incision may be replaced by a support garment.
After surgery, you will be wearing a compression garment to minimize swelling and to provide support to your abdomen while it heals. You may experience some discomfort, but most of our patients tell us it's easily managed with over-the-counter pain medicine even though they will have a prescribed pain medication in the event that they need it. It's important to avoid bending, straining or lifting anything heavy for the first week so you don't put stress of any internal stitches. You can usually return to light activity after a few days and return to week between 2 – 4 weeks. Patients are also able resume your normal routine within a few weeks although it can take you a few weeks or months to feel like your old self again.
Exercise will help you heal better. Even people who have never exercised before should begin an exercise program to reduce swelling, lower the chance of blood clots, and tone muscles. Vigorous exercise, however, should be avoided until you can do it comfortably.
Your scars may actually appear to worsen during the first three to six months as they heal, but this is normal. Expect it to take nine months to a year before your scars flatten out and lighten in color. While they'll never disappear completely, abdominal scars will not show under most clothing, even under bathing suits.

Patient Review for Tummy Tuck in West Palm Beach
Below is one patient who expressed her happiness with the tummy tuck results and the care of Dr. Reddy and staff.
"I am no writer by any means, so what I am about to write comes straight from the heart.
I met Dr. Reddy 10 years ago for a consultation after I had surgery by a different physician, which was not exactly right. Because of that, I was looking to get that fixed. I thought to myself that I would not go to just the cheapest surgeon, as I did previously. Therefore, I had made 5 appointments in one day. Dr. Reddy was my last consult of the day, and not only was he the cheapest, he was also the only one that spent any amount of time with me, telling me what would benefit me and what wouldn't. Needless to say, I booked my first surgery with him to correct what the previous physician did. When I was able to take off my compression bandages, the results were PERFECT and exactly what I wanted. I have to admit that I was scared at first because of what I went through previously. At that time, my self esteem was where it should be. I was so happy and so was my husband.
I went back 1 to 2 years later to have another procedure, and again, the results were amazing. Because I was so happy with my 2 procedures that Dr. Reddy had done, I started talking about him and the work that he did, to my friends and anyone else that I ran into that was looking to have cosmetic surgery. Alot of them had procedures done as well. They too were very happy with the results.
Dr. Reddy has performed several procedures on me and I cannot name one of them that I was not extremely happy with. His staff is great as well, very very friendly. My experience with him and his office over the past 10 years has changed my life drastically. I feel like I have had a full body make over, thanks to Dr. Reddy.
I still continue to talk about Dr. Reddy and his practice anytime I run into someone that wants to have a procedure done and will continue to do so. I want people to have the same experience I did.
One more thing that makes Dr. Reddy different from others, is he will tell you what to expect and how you will benefit from a procedure that you want to have. If he feels that you wouldnt benefit much from it, he will tell you rather than taking your money and doing it anyway. He is a very honest person and he will change your life, he did mine."

Question: Am I candidate for a full abdominoplasty, a mini tummy tuck, or liposuction?
Answer: If a patient seeks to address loose skin, then he/she typically opts for either a full abdominoplasty or a mini tummy tuck. If there is a lot of loose skin (and is both above and below the belly button) that you need to have removed, Dr. Reddy will probably need to perform a full abdominoplasty.
If the skin is limited in amount and the loose skin is below the belly button, then Dr. Reddy may be able to perform a mini tummy tuck. Most patients prefer a mini tummy tuck due to a reduced scar (a scar about the length of a C-section).
If there is too much fat, then liposuction can be combined with the removal of skin – a very common situation.
If the muscles are separated, then some sort of tummy tuck with muscle repair is needed, however the incision can be short or long depending on the amount of loose skin.
Question: How much pain will I have after a tummy tuck?
Answer: Historically tummy tucks were one of the more painful operations that plastic surgeons performed, especially when repair of the muscles was required. Over the past several years, the development of some new ways of controlling pain has helped this situation a lot. First came the development of pain pumps – these are devices that push a local anesthetic through a small tube and into the area of surgery. These were very helpful and many surgeons still use them, but it requires a tube coming out of the skin. More recently there has been the development of a long lasting local anesthetic which can give significant pain control for up to 3 days, and it doesn’t require a tube. Good pain control clearly makes the recovery more pleasant. It also means that less narcotic pain medicine is required; therefore, there is less chance of a reaction to the medication. In addition, it may make the surgery even safer by allowing patients to move around more easily and to be more active.
Question: How long is a recovery after a tummy tuck?
Answer: Well, the answer depends on several factors and to what level of recovery you are thinking about. If you don’t need the muscles repaired, it is likely that your recovery is going to be easier and quicker. Most patients having a full tummy tuck (with muscle repair) find that they are generally able to drive a car within a week. Many patients can work remotely from home, and find that they are able to log on to their computers, answer emails, or even have a conference call after only a few days, although they won’t feel like going in to work for about 2 weeks post surgery. Light exercise (e.g. walking or gently peddling on a stationary bike) can start within 1 -2 weeks. By 6-8 weeks, most patients would consider themselves fully or nearly fully recovered, although it is worth remembering that the nerves will continue to heal, the scar will continue to fade, and the swelling will continue to go down for several months.
Question: Will the results last.
Answer: Yes! As long as your weight remains stable over time, abdominoplasties are typically a ‘once and done’ procedure, never needing to be repeated. Of course your skin will age a bit over the decades, but it usually never gets back to the looseness that you may have experienced before surgery.
Question: After pregnancy, my tummy needs help, but my breast do, too. Can you work on both at the same time?
Answer: Yes. Some women after giving birth opt for a mommy makeover where the breast surgery is combined with body contouring. The key is to develop a surgical plan that is safe and maintains the highest quality.
Question: Will a tummy tuck help my stretch marks?
Answer: That depends on where the stretch marks are located, but the answer is usually “yes”. A full tummy tuck removes most of the skin in the lower abdomen, and any stretch marks in this zone will be removed along with the loose skin. Stretch marks outside of that zone are not really going to be helped. The key is to develop a surgical plan that is safe and maintains the highest quality.
Question: What is diastasis recti repair?
Answer: Diastasis recti is also known as abdominal separation, and it means that your stomach sticks out because the space between the muscles on the left and right of your abdomen have widened. This condition can be temporary during pregnancy, but some women with diastasis recti feel that they still look pregnant months after giving birth. Most cases can be repaired with exercise and physical therapy, but more Dr. Reddy may need to correct in more severe cases.
